LOTTERGIRLS - „Right on"
From New York to London and Berlin; through Hip-Hop, Punk-rock and Techno, Fetisch has
been a player on the scene since the late 80's. With his group Terranova, he moved his
music into the murky dens of Berlin's vaults of down tempo, submerging himself in the
realms of chillout and trip hop.
Last year, under the moniker of Lotterboys he and Paris The Black Fu from the Detroit
Grand Pubahs pushed their brand of funk rock into the mainstream consciousness on the
then brand new TNT imprint. Lotterboys may have been the first stride for the label but
Lottergirls is the next step.
For this project, Fetish wanted to work with someone extra special who had the ability to
span multiple genres. Someone who could cite Iggy Pop, Notorious B.I.G and David
Bowie amongst others, as stylistic influences.
The answer to his prayers came in the form of the original bad babysitter herself, Princess
Superstar. The self-styled gossipmonger techno DJ and original New Yorker, Concetta
Kirschner is celebrated as the female answer to the Beastie Boys. Her song ‘Bad Babysitter'
was a huge techno flecked hip-hop smash back in 2000 and right now she's cracking the UK-
charts as Princess Superstar vs. Mason with their song ‘Perfect Exceeder'.
Needless to say, Fetisch has been a huge fan of hers since the beginning. He tried getting
Princess Superstar and Paris to perform Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta's hit
‘Summer Loving' from the musical Grease. But as it turns out, no one does the original better
than the original...
His next brain wave led him in the right direction, as Princess Superstar becomes Ozzy
Osborne for the day, miming Black Sabbath's ‘Iron Man' with mega enthusiasm in an all
encompassing way and just like that, the Lottergirls were born.
Fetish provides the musical backdrop, styling the rhythms, and washes of glitched up synths
before Princess Superstar adds lyrics, melodies and more importantly, the glamour. But
unlike any other wired up punk-funk outfit, Lottergirls have invited talented musicians to play
with them instead of employing callous machines.
Their debut album ‘Right On', which starts with a wild, blaring fanfare, sounds as if the band
is jumping around in a disco, caked in a leather jacket one minute and then dressed in a
glitter-sequined shirt the next.
'Right On' includes guest performances by Amanda Lear, Manuel Goettsching and Rudi
Moser (Einstuerzende Neubauten). The album follows the recent ‘Bonfini' EP release which
paid homage to the restaurant that gave lost souls and DJs looking for some soul a place to
eat, drink and get mad fucked up.
Throughout the album the Lottergirls head into the trough of disco rock and funk, slowly
finding the ability to uncover the glamour between sleazy bass riffs, sweaty seduction and
sex appeal on the later tracks.
Lottergirls are designed for the rock stages, taking great pride in their manic live shows and
delivering their concoction of rocked up rhythms just the way they should be; with attitude
and a snarl.
