Chateau Flight
Versatile / Paris
Château Flight shaped in 1997 for a remix from Pierre Henry, they just wanted to be a team of remixers...
After two albums, one soundtrack and several maxis, they are now one of the most requested producers.
Musical Path :
This combo electro tune compounds of Gilb'r, the fonder of Versatile label in 1996, and famous for the diversity of his music as a DJ; and of I:Cube, the Genius of electro music. Chateau Flight is the real playground where both producers' fields face each other. A playground where I:Cube and Gilbert Cohen mix respectively their styles for the first : Kraftwerk, Maurizio, Steve Reich, Underground Resistance; and for Gilbert's part the urban sounds such as Hip Hop, Black Music but also early electro, Krautrock, Psychedelic rock.
But they have a common point : that authentic taste for the absurd, the English nonsense and the experiment. A real musical mix that bursts their two albums.
Productions :
On their first album "Puzzle" (2000), they decided to explore Jazz, Soul, 60's French OST but in an electro vein. They tested a new direction in the album entitled "The Meal" (2004) where deep techno and pop songs pass
each other. An album with several featuring: Shawn Lee, Bertrand Burgalat, Marie Daulne, Sebastien Martel...
Their permanent quests for vintage keyboard and effect combine with the use of the last studio technology and software give to Chateau Flight sound an authentic soul and a reel deep mood. This mix between vintage sounds and new technology appears in an unexpected way when Château Flight wrote an original soundtrack for the mute movie "Les Vampires" by Louis Feuillade (1916). To achieve the original soundtrack of "Vampires", Chateau Flight decided to take up a real challenge staying in a studio to work for 3 weeks with the movie "Vampires" as a DVD, an organ linked to various effects and a computer fitted out with far developed software of sound creations.
As a consequence, you can feel a real musical harmony
where the meeting between vintage tune and modern technology managed to give us a general survey of what a mute movies orchestra would sound in 2006, at the Show Live to the Cinémathèque Française. It's hard to find such complicity and complementarities between two producers.
Behind the turntable, Gilb'r is one of the rare DJs to have tested many music fields and to have reached each time "excellence". Now, playing in a club is a unique opportunity to show people his taste and respected producers : Maurice Fulton, Ame, Henrik Schwartz, Theo Parrish, Rekid (Quiet Village Project /Radio Slave), Emperor Machine... With his mate I:Cube, Chateau Flight DJ set turns dance floor into a craziness area. Both playing with the mixer, dropping underground techno with 80's Italo sounds, House with old school Hip Hop and Electro with forgotten Disco track, people on the floor never know what expect !
Since last year, with his club live set, Chateau Flight brought his laptops in the most famous venues and festivals all around Europe and Japan - Sonar, Synch Festival, Taico Club Festival...
And times are currently busy for the guys : following the huge success of their last 12" "Baroque EP" on
Innervisions, the French duo will do the next Body Language CD mix compilation on Get Physical
(October 22nd 2007). Several remixes are planned for this fall : new Poni Hoax single (Tigersushi), a remix for Al Usher expected on the new Prins Thomas label... And a new maxi is also planned for this fall on
Versatile.
